Distinguished YPGA Tour members,
It is with great excitement and anticipation that the YPGA Executive Committee welcomes each of you back for another season of intense competition, shoddy golf, and, yes, of course, SHOTGUNS! The anticipation for this year's seasons is at a record high. Yes, we are still dealing with a covid environment, but the courses are open and golf is safe! A heavy slate of tournaments awaits this year as we have the most tournaments ever scheduled - one a month on average for the next eight months.
To set the expectations straight from the start, the Exec Committee will endeavor to provide tournament previews for each tournament as well as recaps. For the minors, the previews and recaps will be brief and the more thorough previews and recaps that we are all accustomed to will be saved for the the Majors. And, here we go...
Broad Run awaits the Tour on March 14, 2021 for the YPGA Tee-Off Classic with a handsome $180 purse to the winner. Temperatures expect to be in the mid 50s with gusts of wind to be plentiful and impactful. The first tournament of the year will most certainly feature many duffs, skulls, shanks and three-putts. In all reality, whoever doesn't suck the most will likely win this tournament.
The No Chance Crew:
Mike Sabara - increased practice this off season and a vigorous passion for the game finally won't help Mike break 100 for the first time in his life.
Greg Taglialatela - recently broke 100 and his game is trending up but he'll still fall close to the bottom at the Classic. However, will he best Mike Sabara in this intense rivalary?
Dave King - you would think a guy that works for the federal government would have more time to hone his game. Not Dave. He's been tremendebusy giving briefings to congressmen and in turn, expects to hit triple digits on Sunday.
Mike Patitucci - The kid literally shows up to bomb drives. There is more to golf, Mike! But hey, bomb away.
Ed Grambo - Ed bombs the ball off the tee, but he just doesn't have enough reps yet this season to be where he needs to be. He'll get better as the season goes on and he's certainly the best of this bunch.
Andy Kotulka - Recent low scores for Andy don't fool this writer. Once tournament pressure ramp up, add 10 strokes for Andy and his banana shot.
Anything Can Happen Crew:
Paul Pook Koch - Instead of working on his game at the range, Pook spends his free time getting mouthy with the Exec Committee. His best days may be behind him.
David Carney - WILL HE EVER GET HIS DRIVER STRAIGHTENED OUT
Matt Launi - Matt loves winning the first tourney of the season...He could be waiting for the Open though.
Billy Kelly - dad life > golf life?
Matt Kelly - Will four years of utter disappointing golf finally turn around for this single digit handicapper?
Vince Sobocinski - Finally got rid of the ladies clubs, swing is solid but only travels about 60% of the normal distance. Irons need to get hot for Vince to contend.
Jason Torrance - I literally don't know shit about this guy's golf game.
Wayne Zimmer - Same. Funny on Telegram though!
Gerard Margiotti - Gerry should be in contention. He has a nice all around game to contend but he'll need the middle handicappers to tank since he's only getting 10 strokes.
Chris Meyer - Fresh off his season ending win at the Tour Championship last October, Chris looks for more consistency this year. I expect him to struggle at Broad Run before rounding into form in a few months.
Nate Kraynak - 22 strokes! jesus christ. That's why Nate will be in contention.
Mike Musselman - recent trip to the Sunshine State has Mike with a few rounds under his belt and likely gives him the best advantage to win the big purse.
As usual, take the above as incentive to play better or worse! See y'all Sunday. Don't forget to turn the clocks back on your iPhones.
