2022 YPGA Tour Championship Preview:

The 2022 YPGA season is ending. How about that? It feels like yesterday that we were freezing our asses off at Pickering Valley, dodging snow squalls, and wondering why anyone would ever schedule a round at Pickering. It feels like yesterday that we were all woken up by a hooker in our Airbnb in Naples. But alas, here we are. The end of another season that wraps up with 36 holes at Glen Mills. Who’s excited for 36 at Glen Mills?! Anyone?! No one…? Yea me either.

Details:

Date: October 8, 2022

First Tee Time: 6:50am

Closest to the Pin: $20 from everyone for the entire day. CTP will be Hole 10 for both rounds (we may pick a different hole for the second round). Please venmo Ed ahead of time.

Preview:

First Group: Vince Sobocinski, Wayne Zimmer, David Carney, Gerry Margiotti

The drama of the day circles around the first grouping where Vince Sobocinski has a sizable lead over the rest of the pack. He is 2100 points ahead of second place Wayne Zimmer, who will need to sweep the day and hope for a middle of the pack finish for Vince. The distance between Vince and the rest of the pack is so large, that some would say they are building a super Wawa there. Vince should come away victorious after the round on Saturday and another jacket in his closet that Kim will forever hate. Should he not, it will be the largest and most cataclysmic collapse of all time. It’s not implausible though, as recent rounds has him snap hooking his driver which could be very problematic in the Glen Mills fescue. The Tour’s only hope for a collapse from Vince is if Yan Phu aggressively messages him through the company portal and shakes his nerves. Otherwise, expect to see a new vanity plate on the Infiniti that says “Two Time” or “WDGWZD”

Likely the only player in this group that can make some noise will be Gerry, a proven winner on tour who has the ability to break 80 and strike some fear into Vince. Wayne in a sense has a chance, but he’s not a winner. His 2022 campaign has been riddled with bad play in notably weak fields (i.e. Destination Championship, White Clay Creek, and Bella Vista). There are major concerns that Wayne simply can’t live up to the hype of the big stick he carries in his bag. Carney is just along for the ride. For the 4th straight year, he finds himself undeservingly in the final pairing with no real chance or expectation to win. However, if he doesn’t blow up on the first couple holes, look out, because they’ll just be another couple holes, he’ll blow up on to tank his round.

Second Group: Billy, Jason, Ed, Tag

Billy, Billy, Billy. Whatever happened to Billy? Sorta like Anthony Kim who was once destined for greatness but has fallen by the wayside in recent memory. Sure, he has the pedigree to play spoiler on Saturday, but man, if there’s ever a guy that’s struggling to find his game, it’s Captain Hook, who basically has the same handicap as Ed. Imagine that. Speaking of Ed, he played spoiler last season by winning the Tour Championship, which allowed Mike Musselman to claim the ugly plaid jacket. Ed’s grindr game on the course is well suited for Glen Mills where it will be crucial to get up and down as much as possible. However, he recently relinquished the title of Wedge Wizard, which is open for the taking, and his wedge game has been suspect as a result. This could be the bugaboo for Eddie “Ladder 15” Grambo on Saturday. Jason has finally found some life. Last season seemed to be an awakening for Jay, only to absolutely plummet through most of this season. However, he’s played well as of late and could be the prime candidate to play spoiler and finish in the top 3. Tag has no chance, but should bring a collection of mind altering substances to enjoy his day. Please find Dave in group 1 before tee off so he too can just have fun.

Third Group: Musselman, Meyer, Sabara and Nate

No one knows where Musselman’s game is at after his summer hand injury. He rejoins the Tour for the final event and it’s really a wildcard if he can contend. Tough break for a guy trying to defend the crown. Chris loves lying dormant through most of the year only to show up big in the final tournament (see 2020 Tour Championship). If he can stay away from the big numbers, he should be in the running to finish in the top 5. Sabara – hey Mike. Iron your slacks the night before and have fun. Nate will only be playing one round so he won’t factor into the leaderboard. Maybe he makes a run at the closest to the pin contest.
